Before you automate
What do you need before investing in marketing automation?
Automated flows are only as good as the data that triggers them. Before choosing software or writing emails, marketing automation needs clean contacts, reliable events and a shared definition of what a lead and a customer are. Getting this foundation right avoids messages sent to the wrong people and reports nobody trusts. These are the three pieces worth checking first, whatever platform you end up choosing.
Clean, connected contact data
Merge duplicate contacts, agree on required fields and record consent for each channel. Then decide which system is the source of truth: usually the CRM for leads and the store platform, such as Shopify, for orders. Syncing both with your email tool means a customer who just bought stops receiving the discount meant to convince them, and your sales team sees the full history of each contact in one place.
Events that trigger flows
Flows start from behavior: a form submission, a viewed product, an abandoned cart, a purchase or days without activity. Those events come from your site, captured through Google Tag Manager or native platform integrations, and must reach the automation tool with the right data attached. If an event fires twice or not at all, the flow does the same, so test each trigger before switching it on.
Measure beyond open rates
Opens and clicks show engagement, but the real question is whether a flow changes behavior. Compare revenue or qualified leads from contacts who went through the flow with a group that did not, and review each flow on a regular schedule. Good marketing automation is maintained like a product: messages get updated, segments get refined and flows that no longer help get switched off.

FAQ
Marketing automation: frequently asked questions
What is marketing automation?
It is the use of platforms to run marketing actions automatically based on each contact’s behavior, such as sending a welcome email, reminding an abandoned cart or assigning a lead to sales. It saves time, reduces errors and improves customer relationships.
Which tools do you implement?
We work with CRMs and email and automation platforms such as Klaviyo, plus integration tools like n8n, among others. We recommend the stack based on your company size, budget, current processes and the tools your team already uses.
How long does an implementation take?
A basic CRM or email marketing setup can be ready in a few weeks. Projects with more integrations or data migrations take longer, and they are always delivered in stages so you start seeing results from the very beginning.
Which automated flows should I set up first?
For e-commerce, the first ones are usually welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase and win-back for inactive customers. In B2B, lead scoring and routing plus email nurturing. These deliver the most impact for the least effort, and they create a solid base for more advanced automations later.
